Your files stay on your Mac.
AC-3 (Dolby Digital) is a lossy surround-sound format used in DVDs, Blu-rays, and broadcast streams. Converting to WavPack decodes that audio and re-encodes it into an open lossless container, producing a .wv file any WavPack-compatible player can read without a proprietary decoder. Convertessa handles decoding and re-encoding entirely on your Mac — no upload, no cloud.
Drag one .ac3 file or an entire folder onto Convertessa. Batch mode queues every AC-3 file in the folder for conversion in a single pass.
Choose WavPack from the output format list. Convertessa will losslessly encode each decoded AC-3 stream to a .wv file.
Click Convert. Convertessa decodes each AC-3 file and writes a matching .wv file alongside the original. Everything stays on your Mac.
Images, audio, video, documents, archives and eBooks — all converted natively, right on your Mac.

No. AC-3 is a lossy format, so the original compression artefacts are already present in the decoded audio. WavPack losslessly preserves that decoded stream — it cannot recover information discarded during the original AC-3 encode.
Yes. Convertessa decodes all channels present in the AC-3 stream — including multi-channel layouts such as 5.1 — and writes them into the WavPack file intact.
Yes. Drop a folder onto Convertessa or pass a directory path on the command line with convertessa ./folder --to wv. Every .ac3 file in the folder is converted in one batch run.
