Your files stay on your Mac.
AC-3 (Dolby Digital) is a lossy surround-sound codec found on DVDs, Blu-rays, and broadcast streams. Convertessa reads .ac3 files locally and converts them to your chosen format — AAC, FLAC, MP3, WAV, and nine more — without sending a byte to any server. Drag in a single file or a whole folder; your audio stays on your Mac throughout.
Drag one or more .ac3 files onto Convertessa, or click Add Files to browse. To process a whole folder at once, drag the folder directly into the app.
Choose AAC, MP3, FLAC, WAV, or any other format from the output list. Because AC-3 is lossy, you can also set quality when converting to another lossy target such as AAC or MP3.
Click Convert. Convertessa processes every file locally with no internet connection required. Converted files are saved to the destination folder you specify.
Images, audio, video, documents, archives and eBooks — all converted natively, right on your Mac.

Convert hundreds of files at once with per-type group defaults and individual overrides.
First-class support for HEIC, AVIF and WebP — encode and decode, both ways. Read JPEG XL and a dozen more modern formats too.
Drop files anywhere on the window. Native, instant, and exactly what you’d expect on a Mac.
Dial in compression, resolution and bitrate. Keep originals pristine or shrink for sharing.
Never overwrite a file by accident. Convertessa appends safe suffixes automatically.
Every job is logged locally. Re-run a previous conversion or revisit recent outputs in a click.
Bundle your converted files straight into a single ZIP, TAR or 7z — packaged and ready to share the moment a job finishes.
Right-click any file in Finder and choose Convert. A Quick Action handles it on the spot — no need to open the app first.
Shrink Convertessa to a tidy mini window that tucks into a corner — just a drop zone and a format picker for quick, one-off conversions.
No cloud. No account. No upload. Every conversion happens entirely on-device, using the power already in your Mac. What you convert is nobody’s business but yours.
Script conversions, wire them into your build, or batch a folder from the terminal. The same engine, no GUI required.

No. AC-3 is a lossy codec, so detail removed during the original encoding cannot be recovered. Convertessa converts the file faithfully into a FLAC container, preserving exactly what is in the source — but the source quality is not improved.
Yes. Drag a folder onto Convertessa to queue every AC-3 file inside, or use the CLI: convertessa ./folder/ --to flac. All files are converted in one pass.
Never. Convertessa runs entirely offline. Every file is read and written on your Mac; nothing is sent to any server.
