Your files stay on your Mac.
Converting AU to AAC re-encodes your Sun/NeXT audio into AAC, the lossy codec used natively by Apple devices, browsers, and most streaming apps. All processing runs locally on your Mac — no files are uploaded. Set the quality level to trade file size against fidelity.
Drag one .au file or an entire folder into Convertessa. Every AU file in the folder will be queued for conversion.
Choose AAC from the output format list. Use the quality slider to set the fidelity level that fits your use case.
Click Convert. AAC files are written to your chosen destination. Nothing is uploaded — conversion happens entirely on your Mac.
Images, audio, video, documents, archives and eBooks — all converted natively, right on your Mac.

Yes. Pass a folder path to the CLI (convertessa /path/to/folder --to aac) or drag the folder onto Convertessa in the app. Every AU file inside is converted in one pass.
AAC is a lossy format, so quality controls how much audio detail is retained versus how small the output file is. Higher quality preserves more of the original AU audio; lower quality produces smaller files with more compression artefacts.
No. Convertessa runs entirely offline. AU files are read and written locally — nothing is sent to a server or cloud service.
