Your files stay on your Mac.
Converting AVI to Apple CAF pulls the audio track out of your video file and packages it in Apple's Core Audio Format container. CAF is the native audio format for macOS and iOS — no file-size ceiling, broad codec support, and seamless playback on Apple devices. The video stream is discarded; the audio lands in a single .caf file ready to use in Logic Pro, GarageBand, or any Core Audio app.
Drag one AVI file or an entire folder of AVI files onto Convertessa. Nothing is uploaded — your files never leave your Mac.
Choose Apple CAF from the output format list. Convertessa will extract the audio stream from each AVI and wrap it in a .caf container.
Click Convert. Convertessa processes every file in one pass and saves the .caf files alongside your originals, preserving the original audio resolution.
Images, audio, video, documents, archives and eBooks — all converted natively, right on your Mac.

New formats, new features, and fixes — every release, on the record.
Core Audio Format (CAF) is Apple's professional audio container. Unlike WAV or AIFF, it has no 4 GB file-size limit, supports a wider range of codecs, and carries chapter markers and other metadata. It is the preferred format for long-form audio on macOS and iOS.
No quality is lost. Convertessa extracts the audio stream from the AVI container and places it into a CAF container without re-encoding. The original audio data is preserved exactly as it was in the source file.
Yes. Drop a folder onto Convertessa or run convertessa /path/to/folder --to caf in the terminal. Every AVI file in the folder is converted in a single batch.
