Your files stay on your Mac.
Dropping a PNG into Convertessa re-encodes it as AVIF — a modern format that achieves far smaller file sizes than PNG while keeping the original resolution. You set the quality level to balance size against fidelity, and Convertessa strips EXIF and metadata from every output file. Nothing is uploaded; conversion runs entirely on your Mac.
Drag one PNG or an entire folder onto Convertessa. You can also point to files via the menu bar or the command line.
Choose AVIF from the output format list, then set the quality level to control the trade-off between file size and visual fidelity.
Click Convert. Convertessa re-encodes each PNG to AVIF locally — no upload, no internet connection required. EXIF metadata is stripped from every output file.
Images, audio, video, documents, archives and eBooks — all converted natively, right on your Mac.

Never overwrite a file by accident. Convertessa appends safe suffixes automatically.
Every job is logged locally. Re-run a previous conversion or revisit recent outputs in a click.
Bundle your converted files straight into a single ZIP, TAR or 7z — packaged and ready to share the moment a job finishes.
Right-click any file in Finder and choose Convert. A Quick Action handles it on the spot — no need to open the app first.
Shrink Convertessa to a tidy mini window that tucks into a corner — just a drop zone and a format picker for quick, one-off conversions.
No cloud. No account. No upload. Every conversion happens entirely on-device, using the power already in your Mac. What you convert is nobody’s business but yours.
Script conversions, wire them into your build, or batch a folder from the terminal. The same engine, no GUI required.

New formats, new features, and fixes — every release, on the record.
AVIF uses lossy compression, so some detail is traded for smaller files. Use the quality slider to control how much — higher quality means larger files, lower means smaller. Your original PNG is never modified.
No. Convertessa preserves the original resolution — only the image encoding changes. The output AVIF has the same resolution as the source PNG.
Yes. Drag a folder onto Convertessa and every PNG inside is converted to AVIF in one pass. From the terminal: convertessa ./folder --to avif
