A DVD VOB file bundles video, audio, and subtitle streams in a single container. Converting it to AC-3 extracts the Dolby Digital audio track and saves it as a standalone .ac3 file. You can set quality to control the encode, and every file stays on your Mac — nothing is uploaded.

Choose AC-3 from the output format list. Because AC-3 is a lossy format, you can also set quality to balance file size and audio fidelity.

Convertessa re-encodes to AC-3. Use the quality setting to control the output — a higher value preserves more of the original surround-sound detail, while a lower value produces a smaller file.
Yes. AC-3 supports up to 5.1 channels, and Convertessa passes all audio channels from the source VOB track through to the output file.
Yes. Drop the entire VIDEO_TS folder onto Convertessa and every .vob file inside is converted together. From the command line: convertessa ./VIDEO_TS/ --to ac3.
